2014 FLW Forrest Wood Cup is a Nail Biter for Anthony Gagliardi

Team Evinrude’s Anthony Gagliardi earns first place honors by one ounce; four Evinrude anglers make top 10

Sturtevant, Wis., August 19, 2014 – Team Evinrude’s Anthony Gagliardi had an unforgettable performance this past weekend at the Walmart FLW Tour at Lake Murray in Columbia, South Carolina. In a tournament where only 11 ounces separated first and fifth places, Gagliardi’s 4-day, 20 bass limit topped the scales at 51-2, earning him top honors and $500,000.

Gagliardi thought the tight race was fitting—he only made the Cup by one ounce and subsequently won the event by just one ounce. The South Carolina native overcame an unintentional disqualifying rules infraction early in the season and came back to fish the Cup last weekend. After 11 Cup finishes and 15 years as an FLW pro, Gagliardi earned his victory this weekend landing his biggest fish at the end of each day.

Evinrude also celebrated two-time Angler of the Year, Andy Morgan at this year’s Cup and Team Evinrude members Bryan Thrift, Scott Martin and Jacob Wheeler placed 7th, 9th and 10th, respectively.

“The Evinrude team is proud of Anthony’s hard-earned win this weekend,” said Chris Berg, director of marketing and strategic planning for Evinrude. “At Evinrude, we love weekends like this when so many Evinrude anglers make their mark on a tournament. Our engines are engineered to give anglers the power and performance they need to compete. As more of our anglers rig with the new Evinrude E-TEC G2, we anticipate they’ll put the torque and fuel efficiency to great use during next year’s FLW season.”

This is the fourth consecutive year that an Evinrude Team member has won the FLW Forrest Wood Cup. Scott Martin, Jacob Wheeler and Randall Tharp precede 2014’s Anthony Gagliardi and his big comeback.

Gagliardi’s win will be broadcast on NBC October 5, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
