Follow Evinrude Rookie Casey Martin On His First FLW Tour
Tuesday, March 26, 2013
FLW is set to unveil its new web-based reality series entitled “Circuit Breaker” on Friday.
The series, slated for seven episodes, follows the path of Casey Martin on and off the water as he makes the transition from co-angler to Tour rookie during the 2013 season. The show will be available through the FLW YouTube channel and its other social media outlets.
According to Martin, it’s been a pretty cool experience so far.
“They want to get a real, true picture of what it’s like to try to make a living at fishing professionally,” he
told BassFan today. “They want to document how real it is, not just what people see on television.”
Martin said he was approached by FLW late last year to gauge his interest level in potentially participating in the project, and after an interview process, he was chosen to be subject.
“I think rather than go with one of the FLW team guys, they were looking for somebody new like a rookie or second-year guy who was trying to make it as a pro – someone people could relate to,” he said. “I used to be an electrical engineer and worked in the corporate world and from my experience a lot of people in the corporate world don’t understand what all is involved in trying to make a living out here.” Martin said he’s not being paid to participate in the series, but is “hoping something big comes out of it.”
“I did it purely to benefit my sponsors and FLW and help gain more exposure for everyone,” he said. “When I decided to fish professionally, I decided to do everything I could to continue doing it and I knew this would only help. I think it’ll be a huge opportunity. As a rookie, it’s tough to get any exposure on Tour. To have this opportunity to get exposure for my sponsors and just in general, it’s been great.”
This week’s episode will chronicle Martin’s first taste of fishing from the front deck as a pro at the Lake Okeechobee FLW Tour last month where he led after day 1 and eventually finished 6th. The second installment will focus on his preparation and performance at the Lewis Smith Lake Tour event where he wound up 136th.
“So far this year, it’s been a real high and real low so they’ve got those extremes covered,”
