Evinrude E-TEC Engine Powers Filipino Rescue Efforts Ahead of Super Typhoon Haiyan

Evinrude is serving as a lifeline in the Philippines. The Philippine Coast Guard, powered by Evinrude E-TEC engines, is patrolling reachable shorelines while assisting those trapped in the typhoon-ravaged islands.

The Coast Guard is diligently preparing for one of the strongest storms on record, Super Typhoon Haiyan, before it bears down on the central islands of the Philippines. The fast-approaching storm is already beginning to batter the islands and rescue boats, both large and small, are up against 190 mph winds and gusts of up to 230 mph as they prepare to comb through flooded villages on the coast.

Similar to the strength of a Category 5 Hurricane, Haiyan is expected to flood most of the low-lying Philippines with a massive storm surge and torrential downpours.

The Coast Guard and fleets of rescue boats are equipped with Evinrude E-TEC engines for powerful and reliable propulsion in these intense storm conditions. The areas in which many rescuers are entering have been previously destroyed by a 7.1 magnitude earthquake, making rescues even more difficult because locals have dispersed from their devastated villages.
