Randall Tharp – FLW Forrest Wood Cup Win
Coming fresh off the 2013 FLW Tour’s Forrest Wood Cup in mid August, this year’s champion Randy Tharp is still fresh in everyone’s mind with his big win, catching 20 bass weighing in at 53 pounds, 2 ounces. On the last day of the tournament he finished strong with a 5 bass limit weighing in at 14 pounds. Evinrude Pro Staffer Tharp’s winnings from the Forrest Wood Cup include $500,000 and a $1,000 Power-Pole bonus.
Randy explains how much fun he’s having while competing at fishing tournaments like this, “I’m so happy that I won,” Tharp went on to say. “I started out fishing BFLs and club tournaments before moving up to the EverStart series and now fishing the Tour. I’ve been making a living fishing for the last five years now, and they have been the best five years of my life.”

Randy has worked his way up the FLW circuit ranks and started fishing the FLW Tour in 2009. He has qualified for severalForrest Wood Cups, including a career-high runner-up finish in 2011. He cites Lake Okeechobee as his favorite body of water and scored a victory there in a 2012 FLW Tour Open event. Tharp is well-known for always having a flipping stick in his hand and having his favorite bait be a jig.
Randy is from Gardendale, Alabama but now lives in Port St. Joe, Florida with his wife Sara. They travel the Tour with their two beagles Cooper and Riley. One of his most memorable moments on Tour was at his 2011 Forrest Wood Cup appearance. When he is not fishing fresh water tournaments he is saltwater fishing. If he were not a professional angler he says he would be a professional corn-hole player.
